Default The big European Fissure of Woe / Underworld dilemma.....!

I don't know how it is in Korea or America, where favour usually lasts for days, but here in Europe, there is an increasing problem with going into the Fissure of Woe and Underworld.

Because the amount of time that Europe stays in favour doesn't seem to last an hour, EVERYBODY rushes to the ToA, and all the districts fill up with hopefuls wanting to get in on the action.

The problem is, though, that the teams that form up become seriously problematic. You'll see messages like "Party of 6 need Monk/Nuke/Trapper - No N00bs", and if you get accepted into a party, if there is even a hint that you've never been in the FoW/UW before, you're booted out without so much as a by-your leave. (and that's if you're lucky) before I got a modicum of experience, I was insulted to the point of just leaving the party - after all, what's the point of going in with a group if you can't enjoy the game with them?

I've been lucky so far. I've met up and gone in with a few gamers who understand that taking inexperienced but good people into these areas, and guiding them to the dos and donts (e.g Don't talk to the ghost until the area is cleared, good strategic trapping spots etc.) means that more people become adept at handling themselves in the FoW & UW - More people with even the smallest amount of experience means a wider choice and less waiting time whenever Europe are in favour.

To the cynic who believes that all that will happen is that some n00b will f**k up the party by aggroing every singe skeletal beserker from here to Nebraska, a simple solution is to make them pay for entry. If they know that their 1k is on the line, then they're bound to be a bit more cautious and follow instructions, and if they're good, you might find another player you can rely on when you're just a little short of a team and need that reliable trapper/healer/tank.

So if there are veterans who have attained the experience, knowledge, masses of Exp and all the obsidian shards and gold shadow bows they can carry, spare a thought for the dejected n00bs who want to join in a team - you might just find that there are good players in there!

Gaile said something about how Europeans would be regretting switching over to American servers soon. Don't know what she was getting at =p

Well honestly, I think you should try playing at a different time, because every day when I get home from work, Europe has the favor, and has had it for at least an hour , I know thats not long, but I have seen europe winning alot more these days, and I wold not recommend switching to american servers, I don't know about europe and korea, but the prices over here, SUCK bad, and their are far less mature people here to.

Got to admit, I did think of it, but at the same time, it would kind of ruin the whole competitive ethos of competing at the Tomb of Primeval kings. Most probably, I'll give it a try sometime and see how I get on with an American server. Couldn't hurt, could it?

I think though , the point I was trying to make was that the typical European player who gets experience in the FoW should be willing to share their knowledge to other players and not be so restrictive, selective and downright arrogant the moment that Balthazaar's statue starts misting up! :-)

Honestly I think that was hot air to prevent a mass move to the US servers, there is no way Arena Net is going to add anything exclusive to a server since it would make players abandon their server to "check it out".

I hate to say it but yea...switch. Not only will Euros have access to the UW/FoW more often but by switching you are voting with your feet. That is to say you are showing ANET/NCSOFT that the WaW/Favor concept sucks.

Well...not quite.

I kind of like the idea of the HoH/Favour thing. It offers a real element of competition and reward, which is why switching around servers seems a bit...errrmm....sneaky.

I'm sure there are probably a core element of gamers who do switch around servers according to whoever's got favour, just to get into the FoW/UW, and while I've got to admit, I will probably try it out once or twice, it does make the whole point of offering favour redundant, and benefits of winning a tournament are lost.

You can only switch 5 times then you are stuck where you are. I was suggesting that Euro's switch only once. Either to the American server or the Korean server.

go to the old blizzhackers forums (names are changed) and they have some kinda game moderator that allows you to change to korean servers if you want. I think you should be able to anyways but its a cool feature for the people who can speak Ä║↨4YτAY§A"τ◘¼¥╘

ok, and why the hell should this competition be based on reality ?
you do realize that americans and koreans are 10 times as many as the europeans, don't you ?

Anet could simply create a few races/clans/whatever
and everybody would have to choose one

that way, europeans, americans and koreans (and just everybody) could compete side by side against other europeans/americans/koreans groups

Indeed - the Worlds at War concept sucks so badly that describing my feelings about it would get me banned from this forum.

In addition to locking an entire continent out from the only two areas in GW which are of interest for an ascended char, it also screws up my guild because we have players from both Europe and US - who obviously can't go to UW/FoW together.
Also, for setting up a guild team we have to meet in International Districts. This in turn prohibits us from filling up empty party slots with random people because nobody ever goes to International Districts without a good reason.

So:

UNITE EUROPEAN AND USA SERVERS!!!!!

And yes, if the next update doesn't do exactly that, I am gone to US servers, too. No reason to stay in Europe.
